Our intact male basset Arthur has been experiencing internal bleeding on and off for over a month now. This came on suddenly. He has been to the vet and the local animal hospital many times and no one can find the root cause.
BTW we are not sure of Arthur's age as we adopted him and his female companion Annie through BHRSC. Our vet believed them to be about 8 yrs old when we adopted them 2 yrs ago.

So far some things have been ruled out. Such as:
rat bait, ticks and fleas, heart worm, physical injury, Von Wilderbrands disease, BHT,

I am open to hearing any and all suggestions or ideas.

• Intra-abdominal tumors or tumors within the abdomen - these can rupture, slowly bleed, or invade into a blood vessel causing blood to enter the abdominal cavity

• Hematomas – these are organized, local collections of blood that can rupture and bleed

• Coagulopathies – these are clotting disorders that can cause bleeding within the abdomen as well as in other sites

Thank you for the reply. They are going to do a CT scan once he is stable enough for surgery. Hopefully tomorrow. They state that if they find something and he is already under anethesia, they can perform the necessary surgery right then and there. He is undergoing a whole blood transfusion this afternoon.
