I have a 3 year old basset hound, Forrest. Who recently was observed limping (his front leg was being favored). After about a week the problem went away. About 2 months past since then and just today I noticed him beginning to favor his front leg once again. I researched the issue online and noticed the suggestion of elbow dysplasia. We do allow him to sit on the couch, and I read that this could be the cause also. Should I stop allowing him on the couch (really would rather not he thinks he's a cat and we like sitting with him). Or should I get a step for him? Can excercise solve this problem? How much exercise should he get a week (referring to walks)? Thanks!

I'd go to the vet and have X-Rays done to rule out elbow dysplasia.

Our previous basset, when she was about 3 or 4, dove off the couch and sprained her wrist area.. She would limp and get better of and on for years...

My dog is also 3 years old and I have seen him limp on and off for a while too... I think he sprained he ankle while playing with our other dog. I've had blood work done on him and I am just waiting to get the money set aside to have an x-ray done (I am 25 living on my own and trying to do the best that I can for my love bug). I have started giving him Arnica Montana on the days that he is sore or runs around a lot and it seems to be helping him a lot.
