Hi,
My name is Christina and my partner and myself are blessed with Babis, a 5 month old Basset Hound. We fell in love with him the moment we saw him. He is a lovely dog, very smart, gentle and obedient, he is an absolute joy to be around. The only trouble we are facing is his severe separation anxiety. Our landlord has threatened us with eviction if the problem is not sorted soon. We cannot leave the house even for 5 minutes without him howling and barking constantly. We called in a trainer to give us tips, we read tons of articles, books, watched countless training videos and we have been extremely consistent with the training (leaving him for small periods of time, kong toys, music, TV, no eye contact etc) but nothing has worked. Is there any advice you could give us? Anything? We absolutely cannot afford to move and even if we did wouldn't the problem persist in our new home? Is it not bad for the dog to become so anxious? We are desperate for some help, even some hope that he will eventually grow out of it. We read that another dog in the family might solve the problem. This would be our absolute last resort. Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Christina.

Bassets are an extremely loving and social creatures, and some have a very hard time being alone. Have you tried using one of those recordable stuffed animals like they use to help babies sleep. you can record your voice, or heartbeat sounds, what ever you think will keep the pups attention and calm him.
