Noah our basset is almost 9 months old. My question is somewhat complex.

So about 2 months ago-we started to notice Noah limping on his left leg- was put on pain meds. Exam done. Xrays done. False read by a vet that had no experience with the breed yet guessed ugh. So aftre many hrs of research- we finally had x-rays done and analyzed by a "trained" radiologist who is familiar with bassets. Our new vet is excellent and now Noah is going to see an orthopedic surgeon for partial dislocation in both legs (at wrist and ankle). This is something involving the ankle and wrist and the way it was forming/developing.

We did everything we could to help prevent injury- from steps to the bed and couch to blocking off stairs and lifting him in and out of car. We watch his diet and weight.

So my question is this.. anyone else know of this condition? It is sooooo frustrating cuz we really thought it was only a slight injury that would heal eventually.
We will end up scheduling the surgery ofcourse-just a sad thing for a pup to go through. Thanks.

Since you mentioned wrist which in dog terms is carpus and also mentioned a injury, does the pup have Carpal Hyperextension?

If so, the success rate for the Carpal Hyperextension surgery is very high, like 90-95%.

Your dog's gait will forever be different as the carpus (wrist) will no longer have any movement.
