Hello,

My partner and I have a Basset who's everything you could want in a dog and more. We decided to get him some company, and we figured a Basset would be the best choice.

We found one that needed rehoming, but they lied about their reasons for getting rid of him.

The truth was that they couldn't handle him, and he'd become aggressive. He's responding slowly to training, but the way we treat our original Basset is completely wrong for the new dog, and it's impossible to give the new dog the professional training he needs, as well as the environment that will help him, without changing the lifestyle of our old dog who is exactly how we want him.

He has a bite history which means we can't put him into a shelter, we know he'll get put down. And the truth is that 98% of the time he's a loving, affectionate, gorgeous dog who's very obedient, especially on walks which is a first for Bassets. We can't bear to put him down, even though the vets have advised us to do so.

Our problem is that we've had to accept that we're not the people to help him, we've been lied to by his previous owners and been left in a situation out of our depth.

Is there anyone who could help us rehome him?

He seems to react especially well with larger groups of dogs, he sort of fits into the pack and doesn't show aggression, so someone with a large group of dogs, who are treat like dog - i.e not allowed on furniture etc , that sort of person could save this dog,

Any help would be brilliant,

We live in the UK if that helps?
