More to come as I get them. I am picking him up tomorrow and can't wait.

He is a cutie! You are so lucky - bassets are the best friends you could have. Congratulations,

-Miranda (here is my Charlie Marley at about 11-12 weeks)

I am so excited I get to go and get him in about 30 mins. But I think my sister might have dognapped him.

So I got Charlie last night and am so happy. He is not nervous anymore. No jumpiness. He seems to have calmed down and has adjusted well to his new home. The only thing that concerns me right now is that he has not really touched his food. Loves his treats but knows he has to earn them. Would the lack of eating have to do with his adjusting to his new home?? I will keep you all updated. Oh and I have a ton of new pictures just waiting on my sister to email them to me.

Don't worry - he'll eat. But Bassets are finnicky about food, especially when they are nervous. I give my Charlie a mix of 1/3 kibble, 1/3 chopped lean meat (i.e. cooked chicken), and 1/3 finely chopped veggies (carrots, celery, etc.). He loves it. I also add Omega 3's for his coat, and Glucosamine and Chondroitin for his joints, because as you probably know Basset joints can get degeneration due to asymetrical weight load bearing due to their length and short legs.

Probably too much info :) He will eat, though. Congratulations again!

-Miranda

Thanks. And there is never too much info. He actually ate a bit so I am hoping that he is adjusting to his new home and to his new person. Anyways we are having way too much fun for me to be here right now. I will keep everyone updated as to how things are going. Thanks again for your input and food suggestions.

Well we are up to eating 3 times a day at about 1.5-2 cups per sitting. He is now relaxed and wants to nothing but cuddle and play. We have our sit and stay down. This was very important as I have a severly sprained ankle at the moment. He loves working with me in the truck and knows when it is time to work. He goes right to his side of my truck and puts those puppy eyes on me lol. We are now also looking for a nicer place with a yard to live at. I have to say that he is super smart and have been told by those who knew him at the house I rescued him from that he is a completely different and happy dog now.
