I wouldn't think it would affect the housebreaking too bad, but the stairs thing is true, at least going down, up isn't as bad for them. They tend to walk up stairs, but bounce down both front feet at the same time.
They are such heavy dogs, with such short legs, and their joints are still growing, the shock of going stairs a lot is not really good for them.
Even after they get older, it really isn't great for their backs either.
